burnley backyard

The site in suburban Burnley was a disused police station and maternity health centre that serviced a 1960s housing commission development.

Content Studio was briefed by City of Yarra and the Richmond Community Learning Centre to design a new community centre, the Burnley Backyard. The redevelopment was for local residents with the amenities of a backyard included vegie plots, kitchen gardens, arbors, sheds, and studio spaces for community groups to hire.

Content Studio designed three distinct pavilions surrounded by gardens each with its own program and character defined by material; the ‘timber shed’, the ‘tin shed’, and the ‘brick shed’ to sit within the residential streetscape.
