<description>Our submission for the Design for an Active City competition in Melbourne, the Active Ground. A 20m array of led tiles embedded in the surface of the bridge can be programmed to alight in a pattern and by induction. The aim is to encourage pedestrian traffic, with the potential to become a game of hopscotch, a zumba class, twister, a game of memory. At night the path turns on by induction, creating a safer environment whilst conserving energy when not in use.

<description>Other recent and ongoing residential projects include:

The design of a terraced courtyard linking the renovated living areas of a Victorian house in Northcote to this double storey guest house addition.

The renovation of an Edwardian semi detached house in East St Kilda converting it into a family home.

By sliding a lightweight upper storey addition over the rear of a period house in Fitzroy a second facade was created, re-orientating the house to the north and creating a 2nd entry.

A Private library for a retiring professor of history required a library to house his collection of books. The library was designed as a pavilion at the rear of a residence. Floor to ceiling book shelves form the walls supporting the ceiling. Natural light breaks through the shelving to define circulation.

<description>Content was commissioned by the Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre to masterplan the redevelopment of the wharf building at Snug Cove, Eden. The proposal looks to create a focus for visitor, recreational, and knowledge based activities in what is still a working port by using the concept of the ‘Base Camp’. The material palette and formal treatment of the buildings is in response to the industrial heritage of the site.

		<description>MELBOURNE VISITORS CENTRE

The Brief
After initially working on the design of the building, 5yrs later Content was asked to:
* Refurbish the look and feel of the centre and improve the working environment for staff
* Increase visitation numbers
* Create a dynamic and sustainable method of delivering information to tourists

Our Approach
Set up a master plan which allowed the centre to be refurbished over a period, without having to close, and as budgets became available.

Interviewed staff and the executive of the Visitor Centre, and observed visitor behaviour both inside the Centre and within the Federation Square precinct. Key findings: poor awareness of Visitor Centre, over reliance on staff for information.

The Solution
Wrapped a signage band around the facade to give the MVC ownership of the building.
Designed new way finding signage internally.
Updated external shading systems, finishes, services , and joinery to make the space brighter, comfortable, and more welcoming.
Inclusive Environment: improved access for the disabled and increased access to information for the visually impaired.
Advertising: designed panels on the façade of the building to be used to promote major events.

The Results
Increased visitation to the Centre by 40% in the initial two months after signage was installed •
Reduced pressure on staff and improved visitor satisfaction.
Created a new, lucrative revenue stream for the City of Melbourne which now covers a substantial percentage of operating costs.
Reduced brochure turnover by 30% since the internal refurbishment.
