Diamond Valley Library was built in the 1990s to the traditional lending practice of its time.
YPRL asked Content Studio to align the library with modern practices. They asked us to consider how to make the book collection more accessible, and how the design could better service the community, as a place where people could come to work, study, and collaborate.
We designed a marketplace near the entry called ‘Book Express’ where the staff could curate collections around certain themes e.g., new releases, ‘Top 10’ crime reads, etc. We designed co-working areas for use by students, local businesses, and community groups. This included meeting pods, scheduled work desks, and quiet reading areas. Other design solutions included an event space, and an outdoor terrace connecting the library to the community garden. This was our second renewal project for Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries.
