Museo Italiano is a permanent interpretive space that draws on and displays the records, images and objects from CO.AS.IT.’s Italian Historical Society telling the story of Italian migration to Australia and the development of an Australian- Italian Culture.
The brief was to convert of an existing warehouse building in Carlton, Melbourne into an interpretive centre. The space was designed around five main themes, from the wrench of departure through to the ways contemporary Italo-Australians have maintained and fostered their Italian heritage.
Working closely with the exhibition designer (Convergence Design), graphic designer (Pidgeon Ward), and the client curatorial team we designed an environment that best supported and enhanced the exhibition and cultural program to maximise visitation. The redesign of the façade helped create street presence.
