Yarra bank barrels

Two concrete barrels had been fitted out as public toilets in the Yarra Bank Reserve in the 1970s. Over the intervening decades the toilets had been vandalised and were derelict.

The City of Boroondara briefed Content Studio to reinvent the barrels as a depot and workspace for their Parks and Gardens team.

We took advantage of the distinct concrete form, fitting them out with joinery to make them safe, practical, and comfortable spaces for the staff. We had to consider issues around security, durability and vandalism when working in public gardens. We commissioned Buff Diss (local street artist) to create an artwork. Buff Diss used the topography maps of the reserve as his inspiration.
